Shortly after I came out of drug rehab, I was born again on January 16, 1977. I was 23 years old, single, and seeking direction in my life. Shortly after that I felt the call of God on my life, and I responded positively. Those were times of intense prayer and continual Bible reading. At one point, I felt strongly led to go to a medium-sized suburban church. It was in the early evening, and I was seeking a place to pray fervently. I parked in the back of the church and found an open door to the sanctuary. This was the 1970s, and security was not as big a deal as it is today.
